The article is devoted to innovative technologies in the education system. The place of innovations in the educational process is specified. The author reveals the essence of innovative technologies, the possibility of using problem-based learning technologies in the education system. This article examines the formation of socio-cultural competence in students when learning English using problem situations. Those, in turn, are a successful tool in the educational process, because with their help, previously passively acquired knowledge turns into active knowledge.
