STATE AND PROSPECTS OF RESEARCH ON TEACHING FRENCH AS A SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGE

This article provides an overview of the current state and prospects of research in the field of teaching French as a second foreign language. The authors analyze the existing methods and approaches in teaching French as a second foreign language, highlighting key trends in the global language educational space.
The article considers the teaching of French as a second foreign language within the framework of the methodology of foreign language education developed by academician S.S. Kunanbayeva. The scientific and practical significance of the article lies in the need to develop an effective model for teaching French as a second foreign language in the conditions of multilingualism based on cognitive-linguistic and cultural methodology. In determining the prospects for the development of French as a second foreign language, fundamental differences in teaching the first and second foreign languages, the influence of metalinguistic consciousness of a multilingual personality in mastering a second foreign language and the possibilities of considering transversal skills are taken into account.
Based on the review of theoretical and methodological literature, the authors have identified the challenges facing teachers and students in learning a second foreign language. Thus they offer promising solutions to overcome them as well as indicate the needs for further research to optimize educational practices in this area.
Based on a survey conducted among Kazakhstani French language teachers which aimed at studying the state of teaching French as a second foreign language, the authors put forward proposals to solve the identified problems. Based on the results of the survey, conclusions were drawn about the need to study the methodology of teaching French as a second foreign language as a separate area within the methodology of Foreign Language education in Kazakhstan. This article can serve as a basis for future educational and methodological developments in the field of teaching a second foreign language.
