READING AS A METHOD OF IMPROVING THE LANGUAGE SKILLS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

In modern Kazakhstan, great attention is paid to the study of foreign languages. A competitive person today is a person who speaks at least one foreign language. Learning any language is certainly not complete without reading. This article examines the importance of reading in the development of speech skills within middle-level students. The authors analyze various approaches to the use of reading in the educational process, emphasizing its role in expanding vocabulary, improving grammatical skills and developing critical thinking. The article provides examples of effective techniques and strategies that can be used by teachers to stimulate interest in reading and increase the level of speech competence of schoolchildren. Special attention is paid to the integration of reading into the curriculum and the creation of a favorable environment for the development of speech skills. This article also focuses on the problem of introducing school-age children to reading, developing their reading competence, which will help not only to improve literacy in their native language, but also contributes to the transfer of these skills to learning a foreign language. Reading skills are important for language learners, as it is the most effective way to activate visual memory when perceiving written text, when students expand their vocabulary and at the same time improve spelling literacy. In this paper, reading is presented as a method of teaching English. The types of reading are presented and learning through extensive reading and intensive reading is described in more detail. This article also describes an experiment conducted in one of the schools in Astana city, which involved 7th grade students learning English as a foreign language. The purpose of the experiment was to identify how reading is an effective method of teaching a foreign language. The results of the experiment showed that reading is an effective method in improving the speech skills of students.
