Abstract. In the modern world academic burnout has become widespread among students and it occurs due to excessive academic loads and inability of students to cope with fatigue and stress. The aim of the study is to identify the prevalence of signs of emotional exhaustion among high school students of Almaty city schools, as well as to determine the factors affecting their psycho-emotional state. Questionnaire survey was used as the main method, in which 122 schoolchildren from 9-11 classes of different types of schools took part. The questionnaire included questions concerning the level of anxiety, satisfaction with studies, relations with teachers, sleeping and eating habits, as well as distractions in the learning process.
The results of the study showed that a significant proportion of students experience anxiety, pressure and emotional strain, especially during exam periods. Girls show higher emotional sensitivity and students of specialized schools show more pronounced symptoms of burnout. At the same time, the important role of psychological support from teachers and parents in reducing burnout was emphasized. The correlation between the duration of homework fulfillment and anxiety level was also established. In addition, it was revealed that the attitude to teachers and perception of school climate have a significant impact on the learning motivation and general emotional state of adolescents.
The practical relevance of the paper lies in the identification of directions for improving the intra-school environment, burnout prevention and the development of school-based psychological support programs to safeguard the mental health of high school students, increasing their academic motivation and resistance to stress. The obtained results can be used by teachers, school psychologists and administrators to adapt the educational environment to the needs of students.
