Abstract

Modern education is undergoing a stage of deep digital transformation, which increases the demand for training learners capable of functioning effectively in a rapidly changing and technologically saturated world. One of the key challenges is the formation of functional literacy — the ability to apply knowledge, skills, and competencies in various life, educational, and professional contexts. This issue is particularly significant in the context of teaching chemistry, a fundamental natural science discipline that develops analytical and critical thinking, logical reasoning, research abilities, and practical orientation. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), its integration into the educational environment opens new horizons and innovative approaches to developing functional literacy. AI technologies make it possible to personalize the learning process, automate knowledge assessment, visualize complex chemical processes, provide intelligent learning support, and engage students in realistic simulations.

The purpose of this article is to generalize and systematize scientific approaches to the use of AI in fostering functional literacy in the process of teaching chemistry. The paper presents the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon, analyzes international practices, identifies the potential and limitations of AI in education, offers practical recommendations for teachers and educational platform developers, and substantiates the importance of creating a national model of digital chemistry in Kazakhstan.
