The article deals with the formation of positive motivation of university students to learn a foreign language. The concepts of Motive and motivation are analyzed, the characteristic of motivation functions is given. Domestic and foreign scientists consider motivation as a complex multi-level system that has its own characteristics at different stages of a person's life. At the stage of university education, the development of professional internal motivation affects the motivation to study all subjects, therefore, special attention should be paid to it.
The stages of the emergence of positive motivation to learn a foreign language were also analyzed. These stages allow you to determine at what stage the student is at, and based on this, choose the most effective pedagogical means for the teacher. Having analyzed the types of motivation to learn a foreign language, principles, and not educational motivation in the structure of motivation, a set of pedagogical conditions that have a positive impact on learning a foreign language has been determined for university students.
These conditions contribute to strengthening the intellectual and emotional state, allow a person to perform actions productively. The possibilities of the individual in the conditions of problematic content, creative nature and competitiveness. The emotions that arise in this case activate a person, cause and strengthen motivation for activity.
